St_Mary's_Calne_Aled_JonesAled Jones, Classic FM presenter and singer, will be Guest of Honour at an Opera Gala Night   on Wednesday 5th March 2014 to be held at The Merchant Taylors’ Hall, London. The evening will be in aid of The Armed Forces Fund, which funds the education of sons and daughters of Forces Personnel killed or wounded while serving their country.

With Classical Grammy Award Winners Hilary Summers and Neal Davies, Aled will be presenting a glittering array of operatic highlights. Our renowned international Operatic Artists *(SEE PROFILES BELOW) will perform their favourite arias and join forces with soprano Bethan Dudley and the Concert Artists of St Mary’s Calne to create a night to remember.

These international operatic stars will perform popular operatic arias that have become firm favourites of audiences worldwide, and it is sure to be an incredible evening of opera.

This inaugural Opera Gala Evening is being made possible through the very kind generosity of the Airbus Military UK and The Merchant Taylors’ Hall – an impressive venue with a unique  ambience in the City of London.

PROFILES OF THE ARTISTS:

Aled Jones, successful singer, actor, author, radio and TV presenter, broadcaster and part-time dancer, has recorded 29 albums, selling over 6 million copies and is a household name, having appeared on Songs of Praise for over ten years and co-presented Daybreak with Lorraine Kelly.  He is currently the voice of Classic FM’s Breakfast Show, but his varied, prestigious career has included West End Lead roles (Joseph, Caractacus Potts) and as a boy he beguiled the world with his uniquely beautiful treble voice.

Hilary Summers, the world renowned contralto, is equally at home with the challenges of modern music and the Baroque repertoire, having worked with acclaimed conductors on the global stage. This year she has been invited to perform at the prestigious Salzburg Festival, appearing alongside the renowned Cecilia Bartoli in Rossini’s Cenerentola.

Neal Davies is a world class baritone, and is in huge demand as a recording artist and oratorio and operatic soloist.  Neal has created roles to critical acclaim, working with global directors and conductors.  Neal’s recent engagements have included the Barbican Centre production of Curlew River and he is returning shortly to both English National Opera and the Royal Opera, Covent Garden.

Bethan Dudley has performed with Welsh National Opera, English National Opera and D’Oyly Carte Opera Company, working with international conductors and directors, performing at major venues worldwide. She is currently Director of Vocal Studies at St Mary’s Calne, and enjoys a busy performing schedule and coaching young singers.
