St_Marys_Calne_Malorie_BlackmanSt Mary’s Calne is delighted to be supporting the Telegraph’s Bath Children’s Literature Festival and will be sponsoring the Malorie Blackman event on Friday 4th October at The Guildhall in Bath.

The Festival, which runs from 28th September to 6th October, is the largest dedicated children’s book festival in the UK, and presents over 80 public, ticketed events and an extensive programme of events in schools.  The Festival regularly attracts some of the biggest children’s authors and illustrators from the UK and internationally.

St Mary’s Calne is sponsoring the Malorie Blackman event on Friday 4th October at The Guildhall in Bath, 6pm – 6.45pm.  Following her award-winning novel Noughts & Crosses, the Waterstones Children’s Laureate will be discussing her latest gripping novel, Noble Conflict. This is Malorie Blackman’s first official event as the Waterstones Children’s Laureate and should be a fascinating evening.  The event is open to the public (age 11+) and can be booked online (www.bathboxoffice.org.uk) or via the Box Office (tel: 01225 463362). On the evening St Mary’s will also be giving out special bookmarks, launching a literary-themed competition.  The winner of this competition will receive a Kindle!  You can also take part in this competition by visiting the ‘Girl Talk’ section of the school’s website (www.stmaryscalne.org).

As part of the school’s sponsorship of The Telegraph Bath Children’s Literature Festival, St Mary’s Calne girls and visiting Prep and Primary Schools will also be welcoming the Festival’s Guest Artistic Director, author David Almond, to the school on Monday 30th September.

David Almond is the author of Skellig, My Name is Mina, The Savage, The Boy Who Swam With Piranhas, Mouse Bird Snake Wolf, and many other novels, stories and plays.  David is widely regarded as one of the most exciting and innovative children’s authors writing today.  His work is translated into over 40 languages and is widely adapted for stage and screen.  His many awards include The Carnegie Medal, two Whitbreads and The Hans Christian Andersen Award 2010, the world’s most prestigious prize for children’s authors.  He is also Professor of Creative Writing at Bath Spa University.

St Mary’s Calne is very proud to be involved in the Festival and to be supporting these award-winning authors.  For further information about the Telegraph’s Bath Children’s Literature Festival please visit http://bathfestivals.org.uk/childrens-literature/
