On the evening of Tuesday 25th February, a very large gathering of our top creative senior students celebrated the St Marys Calne golden Lily awardsachievements of Calne musicians, singers, artists, actors and theatre production teams with The Fifth Annual Golden Lily Awards.

It was a red carpeted black-tie Hollywood-style affair with Top Hall transformed into a candle-lit dining room filled with displays of fine art.

Ultra glamour was provided by the stunning array of outfits and shoes worn by our sensational senior students who moved elegantly, like movie stars and fashion models, along the red carpet to receive their awards. High heels were ‘de rigeur’!

Categories voted on by ‘The Academy of Calne’ included Best Actress, Artist and Musician in each of the three senior years, Unsung Heroine and Outstanding Contribution in each of the three artistic disciplines.

Mrs Amanda Page accepted a bouquet in recognition of Parent Support of the Arts at Calne, after Miss Lilian St Marys CalneLeadbetter gave a heartfelt tribute to the outstanding theatre work of the great Mrs Debs Price.

Best Newcomer was awarded to Mr Hugh Sutton and, after a delightful address given by Mrs Rebecca Spicer, Miss Leadbetter made a tearful acceptance speech when awarded a Golden Lily for Life Time Achievement in recognition of her twenty year career at Calne.

It was a fabulous evening, full of fun, laughter and excellent conversation.

Of course, the organisation skills of Mrs Paula Doel ensured that everything ran smoothly on the red carpet.

A delicious supper (with wonderful desserts) was provided by Mrs Linda Thomas and her catering team and we were treated to a choral highlight, accompanied by Mrs Bethan Fryar on piano, from the 2011 ‘Les Misérables’ ensemble. What golden memories to cherish…
