Second place went to Art teacher Simon Mortimer, who completed the race in 1:23:32, and third to Lower Sixth pupil Marco Gaias, who finished in 1:28:33.

Head Master of St Peter’s School, Leo Winkley, managed a respectable 8th place in 1:37:23, while the Master of St Olave’s School, Andy Falconer, came in 10th equal, in 1:39:23.

“The annual half marathon is a wonderful event, bringing together staff, pupils, Old Peterites and parents,” said race organiser Angela Tooby-Smith. “We saw some super times today, and it’s clear some of our runners have been training very hard. Well done to all who took part.”

The half marathon follows a route from St Peter’s School, along the river and then along the Selby cycle track towards Naburn, before returning to the School.

The race was originally scheduled to take place in early February, but was postponed due to flooding.
