St Peters School Charity Martin House ChildrenA York school has presented a cheque for £10,000 to the Martin House Children’s Hospice charity.

Andy Falconer, Master of St Olave’s School, handed the cheque to Alison Wragg of Martin House at school assembly today.

The money was raised by pupils and staff at the school over a period of a year. Fundraising activities included cake sales, sponsored silences, city wall walks and car washes. Mr Falconer also ran the Paris marathon on behalf of the charity.

Alison, community fundraiser for the charity, said: “What a tremendous sum to have raised! We were delighted to receive this cheque, especially in this, our 25th birthday year.

“This money will not only go towards helping poorly children, but also their families.”

Martin House was nominated as the official charity of St Olave’s Prep School last year. The hospice cares for children and young people with progressive life limiting illnesses, and provides support to their families. The hospice is based at a purpose-built facility in Boston Spa, Wetherby, and cares for children and young people from across Yorkshire.
