Pupils from a York school have gone on a flying visit to a traditional German Christmas Market…in Germany. St Peters school york christmas market german
Nearly forty youngsters went to the picturesque medieval spa town of Aachen in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany, close to the Belgian border.

The 10 hour mini-trip began with a tour of the town, and a stop at a German café for coffee and cake (a German tradition).

When darkness fell, they returned to the market and soaked up the Christmassy atmosphere. The pupils, from St Olave’s School in Clifton, could buy small gifts for their families, then everyone filed onto the coach for the return journey.

The trip was not only a chance to visit a magical place, but also educational, in that the children had an opportunity to speak German to some actual Germans. In this way it is incredibly motivating for these pupils to then go on to study German at GCSE.
