Historian and broadcaster Tessa Dunlop has enthralled York residents with stories of code-breaking in the Second World War, as the York Literature Festival drew to a close at St Peter’s School.

Tessa Dunlop was the last of seven speakers who visited the School as part of this year’s Festival.

Her talk ‘The Bletchley Girls – women & code breaking in WWII’ charted the role of the code-breaking Bletchley Park women during the War and the difficulties they faced reintegrating into civilian life afterwards.

Organiser of the Public Lecture series at St Peter’s School, Ben Fuller, said: “This was a wonderful talk to bring our participation in this year’s Literature Festival to a close. The lecture brought a fascinating insight into the Bletchley Girls’ roles. We have been honoured to support York Literature Festival again, and we hope to see the Festival continue to go from strength to strength in the future.”

Tessa Dunlop, an award-winning broadcaster and historian, has appeared on Thames Shipwrecks, Coast and Inside Out.
