Pupils from schools across York gathered at St Peter’s School on Wednesday to learn about careers in surgery.St Peters York Suturing mr baroni
The pupils listened to a talk by Mr Marco Baroni, Consultant Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, before participating in a practical suturing workshop.

Pupils were given hands-on experience of suturing using medical equipment supplied by the Royal College of Surgeons; ‘Pharmabotics Skin Pads’, surgical forceps and scissors.

They were given one-to-one help in this by Mr Baroni as well as Chloe Gelder (HYMS York Surgical Society President), Charlotte Thompson and Claire Vincent, all of whom are 2nd year students at Hull York Medical School (HYMS).

Pupils from Fulford, The Mount, Bootham, Huntington and All Saints attended, as well as St Peter’s students.
The popularity of the workshop highlights the fierce competition our young people are facing when trying to get into a career in surgery.
