St Swithun’s Girl Invited to Maths Summer School at Oxford University

St Swithuns Oxford Summer schoolSt Swithun’s pupil India Mackay in Year 11 performed so well in this year’s Intermediate Maths Challenge and follow-on round for high scoring students, that she has earned an invitation to a United Kingdom Maths Trust Summer School. India will spend a week over the summer break at Balliol College, Oxford, along with around 40 of the best young female mathematicians in the country.

Head of mathematics at St Swithun’s Stephen Power said ‘This is an outstanding achievement. It is the first time that a pupil from the school has been able to take up a place on the summer school and I’m sure she will enjoy herself’.

The Intermediate Maths Challenge is aimed at the top third of pupils in Year 11 or below in England and Wales, Year 12 or below in Northern Ireland and S4 or below in Scotland. The challenge involves answering 25 multiple choice questions in one hour and is sat in school under normal exam conditions.
