St Swithuns Girls Joj London Irish RFC8 of the St Swithun’s Junior TAG Rugby team travelled on Saturday 12th November to London Irish rugby ground at the Madejski stadium in Reading in order to become the Guard of Honour for the day.

On arrival the girls were whisked to the upper levels of the stadium where they met and chatted to three of the current team including England International Topsy Ojo. The players were quizzed by the girls including a tricky question posed by one of the girls; “Do you cry when you get hurt?”.

The girls managed to collect a few autographs before being handed the London Irish team flags and heading to the pitch in front of the 6,500 cheering crowd and cameras where they stood, waving their flags to welcome the teams on to the pitch. They then stood proudly for the Remembrance minute’s silence before the match began. It was then up to the stands to watch a closely fought battle with opposing team Edinburgh, which London Irish unfortunately narrowly lost by a single point in the 19-20 final score.

The highlight for many of the girls was meeting Pudsey Bear who was also present at the match to collect money for Children in Need.
