St Swithun’s hosts Team Maths Challenge

St Swithuns School Maths challengeSt Swithun's, Winchester hosted the regional final of the United Kingdom Maths Trust's Team Maths Challenge on Friday 30th March – a competition involving over 1,500 schools nationally. In all, 21 teams of four came from across the South to take part in a variety of mathematical tasks over the course of a very full day. The Year 8 and Year 9 students worked with dedication and enthusiasm in the Group Round, Head-to-Head, Crossnumber and Relay with the overall winners being the team from King Edward VI School from Southampton who will go forward to represent this area at the National Final in London in June. As well as the mathematical aspect of the day, the wonderful weather allowed the teams to enjoy a picnic lunch in the grounds of St Swithun's.

St Swithun's Head of Mathematics, Stephen Power said "The whole day was a fantastic opportunity for mathematically talented students from across the region to enjoy pitting their wits against some tricky problems as well as 20 other teams. It was truly inspiring. "
