St Swithuns DivingBerlin was the location for a recent international training camp for St Swithun’s pupil and top diver 12 year old Abbie Baker from Winchester. The camp involved a very busy week’s training schedule involving 5 hours of training per day followed by an international competition at the end of the week.
Abbie won gold on the 3 metre springboard beating all of the more experienced German divers and she also came second in the platform event, missing out on gold by half a point to the top German diver in her age group. Abbie’s excellent diving at the event credited her with two personal best scores.
Abbie will next compete in February 2012 when she will enter the Armada Cup in Plymouth, one of the four regional Grand Prix events held each year, before then competing at the British Elite Junior Diving Championships in April.
As a Winchester girl and training at Southampton Diving Academy Abbie has been awarded a training grant from Hampshire County Council as one of “Hampshire’s Talented Athletes”.
