St Swithun’s School, Winchester welcomed former Special Advisor to the Ministry of Defence Mr Oliver Waghorn to the school last week.
Mr Waghorn met girls studying politics before addressing an audience in the school’s performing arts centre.
His talk, entitled ‘Life as a special advisor’, gave pupils an insight into this role and the challenges and excitement that it presents.
Students, parents and staff had the opportunity to meet Oliver Waghorn after the event. Anna Melleney, Year 11, said “It was a very inspiring take on the political system from someone who was clearly passionate about his job.
Mr Waghorn was inspiring to listen to, speaking about the job, his time in warzones and the personal connections he has made.
The job of special advisor, a combination of political and factual knowledge and gut instinct, was a very appealing idea to many. Overall a superb evening”
