St Swithun's Junior School Zoe DavisonSt Swithun’s Junior School, Winchester had a visit from Olympic hopeful Zoe Davison who, at 16 years old, is part of UK Sport’s World Class Programme for Modern Pentathlon. The disciplines for the pentathlon are swimming, running, fencing, riding and the combined shoot and run section. Zoe loves all the disciplines but riding is her favourite.

Zoe met with Years 3 – 5 and spoke with them about her journey to becoming a GB athlete and her aims for the future. She explained to the children that talent is not enough and that hard work and determination play a huge part in achieving your goals as well as a strong support team around you.

Zoe then showed the children some of the equipment required to participate in her multi-event sport including the laser pointers, fencing equipment and riding gear.

She stayed to encourage the girls at the school’s sports afternoon.

Director of sport at St Swithun’s Junior School Roger Marshall said “It was lovely to see Zoe after coaching her as a prep school pupil at my previous school and to see and hear how much she has already achieved. The girls were suitably inspired and went on to smash numerous school records in the afternoon.”
