Junior tournament winnersSt Swithun’s Junior School Year 4 netball team have just completed a hat-trick of three tournament victories for the season.

Following wins at Alton Convent and Portsmouth Grammar School tournaments earlier in the year, the Year 4 A team played in the Salisbury Cathedral High Five netball tournament last week and progressed through the initial rounds. In the knockout stages, St Swithun’s went on to beat Durlston Court to be crowned tournament champions. To complete a successful day for the Winchester school, the B team (with a mix of girls from Years 3 and 4) finished in an impressive 3rd place out of the 12 competing teams, many of which were A teams.

St Swithun’s director of sport Roger Marshall said “It was great to see the versatility of our players, as all the girls had to rotate positions after every half or quarter. To also see our mixed team doing so well against so many A teams fills me with excitement. So many of the girls have made huge strides in their netball over the course of this year giving both the Year 3 and 4 squads real depth.”

The Year 4 A team were Izzy Bruce, Emilia Richards, Amelia Johns, Immy Watson, Hermione Murray and Emily Maclay.

The mixed Years 3 and 4 team were Grace Clark (who is normally a member of the Year 4 A team when playing 7 a side but this time captained the mixed 5-a-side team brilliantly), Elfye Richards, Cleo Kent, Serenna Tirado, Zofia Litwic and Joely Clark.
