St Swithun's New Junior SchoolStaff at St Swithun’s Junior School, Winchester were delighted to welcome pupils to the brand new school building which opened its doors for the first time this week.

The new school replaces the existing school buildings and, among many other things, enables the Junior School to have smaller class sizes. The development includes specialist teaching rooms, a science laboratory, an art studio, a media/computing room and, in the next phase, which is underway, a new performing arts space and gym.

The school is a light, bright, modern space with huge expanses of glass allowing expansive views over the trees and fields beyond. Internally the light wood finishes, oak floors and white walls compliment the contemporary furniture. Outdoors the school is surrounded by beautiful naturalistic planting with the new sports courts and playing fields beyond.

The new performing arts space and gym will open in Easter 2016. In the meantime pupils will use the existing hall and gym.

Headmistress Pim Grimes says “The new school is a wonderful building to work and learn in. We have spent the summer preparing and are delighted to have such a wonderful facility for the children. The light floods into the building bringing the outside in. We have state of the art facilities and are very proud of what we have achieved; St Swithun’s Junior School is a spectacular place to be”
