On April 2nd, 116 girls in U4 and L5 took part in The National Enterprise Challenge, an inter-school entrepreneurial St Swithuns National Enterprise Challengecompetition backed by Lord Sugar. The girls were competing for a place to represent St Swithun’s in the national final in London later this year.

Working in teams of six, the U4 girls had to come up with a social enterprise business idea. The L5 girls were challenged to think of a product or service based around the theme ‘brand Britain’.

After deciding on an idea, each team had to prepare a business case, design a logo and website and prepare a presentation to sell their idea to their peers.

The judges from TNEC were very impressed with the quality of the girls’ ideas and work, and found it very difficult to choose a winner.

In the end, the L5 team of Kitty Addison, Maria Burbidge-King, Alicia Dent, Hannah Cole, Sophie Bennett and Mia Bickford, who devised the concept of The Big Red Pub (a café on a Big Red Bus) was announced as the overall winner.

This team will go on to represent the school at the national finals in London in July, when they will pitch their idea to specially chosen guest judges from the business community followed by dinner and a Q&A session with Lord Sugar.
