St_Swithuns_school_NT_Connections_castSt Swithun’s, Winchester, drama department took part in the National Theatre Connections festival of new writing for young people, culminating in the performances of their chosen play at school last weekend.

The girls chose and performed a play called ‘The Wardrobe’ written especially for the festival by Old Girl Sam Holcroft (2001) which they were thrilled to be able to perform in front of Sam and the St Swithun’s audience at the school’s performing arts centre on 15 and 16 March. Sam is currently the Writer-in-Residence at the National Theatre Studio. She really enjoyed watching her writing come alive on stage for the first time and loved the fact that the school had designed and built a ‘real wardrobe’ for the occasion.

The cast go on to perform ‘The Wardrobe’ once again at Salisbury Playhouse on 9 May.
