Tallulah Jeffes, 13-year-old pupil at St Swithun’s School, Winchester equalled the national high jump record at the National Prep Schools Championships at Alexandra Stadium, Birmingham on 24th June.
Tallulah, from Winchester, won the IAPS national competition and gained her record with a jump of 1.56 metres. She also won the competition trophy for the outstanding performance of the meeting, the Corden Cup.
Five St Swithun’s girls, including Tallulah, competed at the national competition, having qualified at the Wessex area competition in early June.
The girls all performed extremely well at Birmingham. Maddie Turner, aged 13 from Andover won first place in the 300m and came third in the long jump. Elizabeth Adamson, aged 12 from Eastleigh, came third in the javelin and third in the 800m. Freya Green aged 13 from Alresford, qualified for a place in the 200m final and Alice Bentinck, aged 13 from London also made it through to the 75m hurdles final.
A delighted Tallalah said “It was a very exiting competition, and was made even better by how well everyone did. I was so happy when I found out I had won the high jump, and overjoyed that I had equalled the national record”.
To add to her success, a few days later, Tallalah set a new St Swithun’s high jump record of 1.52 metres at the school’s sports day.
