St Swithun’s School pupil wins national Public Schools’ Fencing Championships 2015

Jacqueline Oien, from London, a 13 year-old weekly boarding pupil from St Swithun’s School, Winchester came first in the U14 girls Mount-Haes Épée class of the Public Schools’ Fencing Championships at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre this week.

Jacqueline competed for St Swithun’s against approximately 50 other girls and completed 10 fights in two rounds of pools, followed by wins in a direct elimination stage.

Having taken up fencing only four years ago Jacqueline also recently won second place in the U15 Junior Series Épée class at the Leon Paul Fencing Centre in London, whilst competing as one of the youngest competitors against 15 other fencers.

She trains weekly at St Swithun’s and as a member of Haverstock Fencing Club in London.
