Emily Feibusch, a pupil at St Swithun’s School, Winchester won the regional heat of ARTiculation 2015.
ARTiculation is an initiative designed by Roche Court Educational Trust, Salisbury to stimulate students’ interest and understanding of art while developing individual thinking, observation, research, language and presentation skills. The ARTiculation Prize public speaking competition invites sixth form students to give a short presentation on a work of art, artefact or architecture of their choice. Partner galleries and museums host regional heats across the country prior to the finals at The University of Cambridge.
Emily, 16 from Farnham won first prize with her presentation about The Bust of Medusa (c. 1638-48) by Gian Lorenzo Bernini at the New Art Centre in Wiltshire on 3 March. Having previously won her school heat, Emily was competing against eight other contestants from other local schools including Winchester College, Godolphin and Canford. Emily and the other contestants delivered their presentations to an audience of about 70 people. The adjudicator was Stephen Freeke, director of the New Art Centre.
ARTiculation Prize heats were held at nine other regional venues. Emily progressed as one of the ten finalists to speak at the final, which was part of the ARTiculation Conference at Clare College, University of Cambridge, adjudicated by Dr Penelope Curtis, Director, Tate Britain. Although Emily was not in the top three she thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Emily said “I had a fantastic day at the New Art Centre for the regional heat and at Cambridge for the final. The experience was extremely valuable and inspiring; I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be involved.”
