Two pupils from St Swithun’s School, Winchester have gained their first junior international caps playing lacrosse for Scotland.
Amelia and Jemima Brown, aged 14 and 12 respectively and from Winchester, played for Scotland at the lacrosse Home Internationals tournament at Surrey Sports Park on 15-17 April.
Amelia played for the Junior Scotland A team and Jemima played for the Junior Scotland B team.
Unfortunately Scotland lost their matches to the stronger English and Welsh teams on this occasion but this experience has made the girls eager for further international competitions.
St Swithun’s was also represented by two other players at the tournament. 17-year-old Tanaquille Manton-Jones played for the England Junior B team and earned her 4th junior cap, having played in the tournament last year. Former pupil Sally Goodhand, currently studying at Edinburgh University, played for Scotland senior first team. The Scotland first team lost against England and Wales but beat visitors Germany 11-4.
Head of Lacrosse at St Swithun’s Kate Nelson-Lee said “We are really proud of the girls’ commitment to playing lacrosse at an elite level. I had the opportunity to watch them all play over the weekend and they certainly played with the passion that we strive to instil in our lacrosse players here at St Swithun’s”
St Swithun’s coach and Scotland junior team coach Taryn Abbassian said” I’m extremely proud of both Amelia and Jemima for their performances at the Home Internationals. We faced two formidable opponents and each of the girls exhibited some fantastic lacrosse on the pitch. Both were among the youngest players on their respective teams. They have extremely bright futures with Scotland Lacrosse as well as with their school lacrosse.”
