Stonar School GCSE ResultsPupils, parents and staff celebrated a superb set of GCSE results this year and despite a drop in top grades nationally, Stonar’s results showed an increase in this year’s A*/A grades up to 46.5%. This is significantly higher than the national average of 21.3%. The sciences yielded particularly pleasing grades with A*/A grade passes at 92% in Biology at A*/A grades, 83% in Physics and 75% in Chemistry.

The girls were justifiably pleased with their successes; happy parents praised staff and commented that results had exceeded expectations. Alongside the delighted high fliers with top grades, other pupils surprised themselves with higher than predicted grades. Their successes demonstrate Stonar’s unique ability to nurture and help each pupil to achieve and usually exceed expectations.

High-fliers included Laura Sheppard from Whitley, Wiltshire who gained 13 x GCSEs with 12 passes at A*/A grades; Abigail Collis-Smith from Reading who gained 13 x GCSEs – 10 of which were at A* grades and 3 at A grade; Georgiana Snelling from Trowbridge who gained 13 GCSEs with 12 passes at A*/A grades. Lucy Kelly from Potters Bar gained 11 x GCSEs with 9 passes at A* and 2 A grades. International pupils Katie Lui from Hong Kong gained 12 GCSEs with 10 passes at A*/A grades and Candy Lin gained 12 GCSEs with 9 passes at A*/A grades. However, the school equally values pupils whose results are a testament to sheer perseverance and hard work. These include Charlotte Hedley-Harper of Warminster, Alexandra Titcombe of Corsham and Daisy Savage of Lower Wanborough, Wiltshire, who were amongst the vast majority who achieved significantly above expectations.

Abigail Collis-Smith who has been at Stonar since Year 4 was delighted; she would like to study Medicine at university and go on to become a paediatrician. Abigail’s mother said “We are extremely proud and happy for Abigail, she has had such a positive experience and has thrived at Stonar”

Laura Sheppard hopes to study a science at university; Professor Welham, Laura’s mother said “Laura has exceeded her own and our expectations; we are delighted”.

In last week’s A Level results, all those who applied to university gained a place at their university and course of choice to read subjects that included Law, Human Biology, History & International Relations and International Equine & Agricultural Management.

Head Toby Nutt said “Yet again these results bear testament to the incredible hard work that both the pupils and their teachers have put in preparing for these exams. They demonstrate the value of an all-around education in a small and supportive environment. Exam success is only one aspect of these pupils’ achievements which contribute to their wonderful academic and personal development.”
