Stover School’s Exceptional GCSE results in 80th Year

Stover School in Newton Abbot, which is marking its 80th anniversary this year, is celebrating another set of outstanding GCSE results.

Charlotte Killick gets great GCSE results at StoverTop performers include Charlotte Killick, from Buckland Tout Saints, near Kingsbridge, who achieved 7 A* and 2 As and Samuel Ho, a boarding pupil from Hong Kong, who also gained 7 A*, 2 As and 1 B. Samuel says ‘The teachers at Stover are passionate about their subjects; because of Stover I have had the courage to explore the world and become a self-motivated and disciplined teenager.

If students were minerals, Stover would be the miner who discovers and polishes them.’ Other high achievers were Rachel Hannon, from Ilsington, who achieved 6 A* and 4 As and Saxon Mudge from Kingsteignton, who gained 2 A* and 8 As. Rachel, Saxon and Charlotte will be joining the Sixth Form in September.

The co-educational independent school has maintained its 100% pass rate at GCSE with an increase in papers gaining the top grades of A* and A. Over 40% of pupils achieved an A* or A in Mathematics.
Bucking the national trend, Stover pupils also did very well in three Modern Foreign Languages with six Year 9 pupils achieving 5 A* and 1 A in French, German and Chinese.

The school also attained a 100% pass rate in ICT Nationals, run by the OCR examination board, which are equivalent to between 1 and 4 GCSEs with 59% of pupils gaining Distinction and Merit.
Stover Principal, Sue Bradley says ‘Once again we are celebrating excellent GCSE results. I am extremely proud of all our pupils and our dedicated staff. We have an impressive clutch of top grades but I am particularly heartened by the results of those pupils who have worked so hard to achieve their individual successes.’
