Darren Bennett joined pupils, teachers, parents and school governors to open the new Lakeside dance studio at Barlborough Hall School.

Students were put through their paces by Darren who judged a mini dance competition including a barn dance and the Cha Cha Cha, with six couples entering the final.

Delighted duo Emma and Mayowa, both from year five, were officially crowned the champions of the competition.

Wanda Parkinson, headteacher of Barlborough Hall School, said: “Having Darren, a well known professional dancing star to open the studio was fantastic and really gave the students a boost when performing in front of their parents and governors.

“The new studio will be primarily used for the dance, gymnastics and martial arts, broadening what is already an enhanced physical curriculum at the school.”

The dance studio was originally finished in late October 2010, but a flood over Christmas caused significant damage.

Wanda added: “Both the children and staff were devastated when the floods caused severe damage to the studio last year, but thanks to much hard work this was quickly repaired. We are delighted that once again, we have a first class studio which boosts excellent facilities for the children to enjoy.”

The new studio will be used by the students in their regular, as sports programme and be available for hire by the local community.
