Students from Mount St Mary’s College worked against the clock to recreate the wedding dress of the year.

The students' interpretation of the wedding dressPupils from the art department at Mount St Mary’s College, Spinkhill, had their eyes glued to the television at 11am on the big day when the nation got first site of Kate Middleton’s dress.

The team of four pupils lead by Head of Art, Penny Woodhouse, began their interpretation of the dress with a sketch and then set to work with fabric, lace and ribbon to recreate Sarah Burton’s exquisite gown.

Speaking at the event, Penny said: ‘We have never done anything like this before and really we’re pushing ourselves to complete this in record time.

‘This is the first Royal wedding for the students and we wanted to do something very special to mark the occasion and celebrate the happy couples’ day.

‘The art students have a fantastic talent and eye for detail when it comes to fashion and design and did tremendously well. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed recreating the beautiful design.

‘We wanted to capture the elegance and fine detail of the dress whilst adding our own interpretation. The girls even made the tiara, bouquet and the engagement ring using materials in the department. It was an incredibly exciting day with nervous tension building up to the three o’clock completion deadline. However, Holly Band made a fantastic ‘Kate’ and there was not a dry eye in the house!’

Mount St Mary’s preparatory school, Barlborough Hall, celebrated in their own way by holding a Royal Wedding party with a fancy dress theme of red, white and blue with bunting in the school dining room.
