A teddy bear from Sunny Hill Preparatory School, Bruton School for Girls, has spent the summer holidays travelling to Mongolia as part of a team in the Mongolian Rally.

Rally drivers off to Mongolia with Sunny Hill teddybear!Pupils from Sunny Hill held a mufti day and cake sale to raise over £100 for the team’s charity, The Lotus Children’s Centre, which works with vulnerable children in Mongolia.

School Librarian, Pennie Dunn, captured the pupils’ imagination during an assembly on her cousin, Alistair Forgan’s expedition with two friends to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia and pupils decided to raise funds to support the charity.

Pupils also donated a Sunny Hill teddy bear to travel with the team to delight children along the 19200 km route which passes through countries such as Russia, Iran, Tajikistan.

The team set off for the rally from Bruton, where their car was adapted by Bruton Motor Services and collected their Sunny Hill teddy.

Pupils can follow the progress of their bear at the team’s website, www.khantikitours.com and once the rally is over pupils will be establishing links with the Lotus Children’s Centre through a pen-pal scheme and sending gifts created in craft sessions.

Head of Sunny Hill Preparatory School, Mrs Helen Snow, said

‘This is an exciting and different way for the pupils to extend their knowledge of world geography by following Teddy's journey, and at the same time knowing that through their fund raising, they have made a valuable donation to the The Lotus Children's Centre.’
