Every weekend at Trent sees an incredibly busy sporting schedule and last weekend was certainly no different.

An estimated 80% of Trent students are regularly involved in team sports at School and that was reflected in the fact that the School fielded n fewer than 22 teams at the weekend, across ability levels and ages, for hockey and netball. In addition to this, the U18s Girls’ hockey team and several cross country runners were in action with considerable success.

Congratulations must go to the former as they qualified for the first time for the National Finals to be played on March 5th and 6th. The girls played in the Regional Finals at Rugby School on Saturday and were in excellent form throughout. The girls began by defeating Oakham School by a goal to nil, following that up with victory over their hosts by 3 goals to 1. An impressive 7 -0 victory over Wellingborough saw a hat trick from Harriet Livesey. The subsequent 3 -1 defeat of Oundle School included 2 goals for Kim Leiper. Elizabeth Honarmand scored an impressive 4 goals making her the team’s top scorer on the day.

However, Head of Hockey, Mr Steve Wood, assures everyone that it will be a different story at the National Finals! We look forward to him being proven right but, in the meantime, well done girls and the very best of luck in March!

Meanwhile, Trent College cross country runners battled very difficult, windy conditions, finishing in very creditable places in the District Championships. Zak Savva and George Sutherland qualified to run for Derbyshire in the National Cross Country championships by finishing 5th and 6th respectively in the Senior Boys’ race. Emilia Larkin managed 15th place in the Year 8/9 race and, as she is a year younger than her age group, will have another attempt next year. Joe Wilkinson also finished 15th in his race for Intermediate Boys.

Another super weekend of sporting success for Trent College students! It is testament to the enthusiasm of the students, the support of their parents and the dedication of the sports staff that this type of activity is the norm rather than the exception.
