Simon Brown, beneficiary and member of staff at Blind Veterans UK, was delighted to return to the School on Friday Sutton Valance Blind veterans 16th November to present medals and certificates to the Cycle Team.

The team of thirteen boys and two members of staff completed a 460 mile cycle ride from North Foreland to Land's End in July this year in support of the charity.

The boys were supported on the ride by Biology teacher, Jamie Walsh, who has now moved on to teach in Sharjah and could not be at the ceremony, as was the case with three of the boys who have now left to go to university. However, they will shortly be receiving their medals and certificates through the post.

Taken after the presentation, the picture shows Simon Brown in the forefront with Sam Russell-Vick, Ed Collins, Anton Evans, Lewis Burnham, Will Woodford, Kieran Broom, Harry Marsh, Andrew Thomas, Ben Childs, Hugh Gower and Ed Bower, along with Kit Rose, who cycled in support and Anna Kane who provided much needed sustenance along the route.

The team spent three months before the trip training and raising sponsorship. Through personal donations and those through JustGiving, the team raised over £9,200 for Blind Veterans UK. Colin Williamson, Cadet Youth Challenge Project Officer at the charity, said,

"This is a magnificent amount and I’m really pleased that the school is in line to win the ‘top fundraisers’ trophy for the second year in succession! Thank you and congratulations to all of the team and those who helped make it happen."
