Taunton School Experience the Well’s Culture

After a packed lunch at School, the Boarding House set off for the School minibuses armed with Mars Bars and Taunton School Wells Culturesweets for our journey.

We watched the sledges run down Glastonbury Tor with much jealousy and reached the frozen wastes of a car park in Wells.

Thankfully the Cathedral had its heating on and the astronomical clock performed beautifully at two o’clock.

We tried valiantly to wear away a little more of the steps to the Chapter House but perhaps we needed another 700 years to make an impact.

We saw the oldest residential street in Europe and marvelled at its optical illusion.

The swans were out at the Bishop’s Palace but by now interest in the sweet shop, toy shop and pasty counter had taken hold. We were back in time for the lovely barbecued chicken for tea.

Oliver liked the West Front with the 300 statues the most, whilst Willow enjoyed the clock, although it was too difficult to tell the time on until it chimed. Did you know that the daily clock winder only retired in 2010.
