IMG_6340Taunton Prep School pupils took part in an exciting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) morning recently, where they had to design then test a simple Wind Turbine, capable of lifting a cup off the floor to bench height.

Year 3 pupils put their thinking caps on and came up with a sustainable structure which would emulate a wind turbine. The ‘wind’ came courtesy of a hair dryer, and pupils were able to see their brilliant creations come to life, lifting a cup from the floor.

Head of DT, Mr Simon Ashmore asked pupils to consider variables that would be involved in the design phase, with the additional challenge of trying to make their design as sustainable as possible. Year 3 teacher Mrs Bryony Finch said “To link in with their recent Science work, considering factors that would make it a ‘fair test’ were also discussed”.
