THE excitement has been building up over the past few weeks as the graphic product project came to a close last Taunton Schoolweek with the final presentations.

Mr Manners, Miss March, Mr Harnett and Mr Ashmore were all very impressed at the standards reached this year.

To try to persuade the judges business cards were handed out, leaflets pushed under our doors, samples of scents were left to test and a of course some brilliant sales stands, packaging and perfume and aftershave bottles produced in their DT lessons.

The pupils had to design and make a new aftershave/perfume aimed at the teenager market by providing a bottle, package and point of sale stand as well as promotional items to help pitch their product and present it to their English and DT teachers.

Glen and Harriet came again from Swallowfield in Wellington to chose some winners and commend others after starting the project way back in February.

It was tough for them with our Year 7 pupils being grilled about their companies, products and advertising campaigns. They were very impressed with the high standards reached by our budding young entrepreneurs. However coming out top in reverse order were:

3rd place – No 47 (Sam Smith, Amber O’Neil, Tom Lawson and Sophie Bray)
2nd place – Dusk Conspiracy ( Michael Botta, Georgia Hall and Matthew Symonds)
1st place – SKYZ (Ellie-May Vohra, Oli Boardman, Willow Oatly and Ben Fletcher).

A special mention went to Clairvoyant for their promotional items and activities.

I would like to thank the whole of Year 7 who worked so hard on this ‘real-life’ design project. I am sure much was gained from the whole experience, especially as we had the input from professionals in this field.
