Eight Year 10 pupils at Rydal Penrhos School have recently completed the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Tennis Leaders Course. The course is run by Sports Leaders UK, and is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful candidates to lead small groups whilst under the direct supervision of their tutor. T

he qualification is a fantastic way for pupils to learn and practice leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork – all through the medium of sport.

The Rydal Penrhos pupils are all taking their PE GCSE this year. The qualification requires knowledge of the basics of tennis; strokes, game formats and variations of the sport, and an understanding of how to introduce tennis to people of all ages and abilities.

The pupils have already been putting their skills to good use by coaching their peers, and Year 7 and 8 pupils. All of them also completed the additional ‘Helping at your school’ module which covers learning how to organise various tennis activities with large groups in small spaces, and organising informal competitions.
