Cheltenham Ladies show off thier new boatAn Olympic rower visited The Cheltenham Ladies’ College for a ceremony to name the school’s new boat.

Sarah Winckless attended an event with more than 90 girls and parents to formally unveil Twenty Twelve on Saturday.

The three-time Olympian and double World Champion gave an inspirational talk to the lunchtime gathering, which was arranged to celebrate the arrival of the lightweight vessel.

College Head of Rowing Chris Widden said: “The chance to meet an Olympian was an inspiration for all our girls, some of whom hope to become elite rowers in the future.

“This new boat is used for the coxed fours and will considerably improve the performance of the lighter rowing girls.

“We were very privileged to have Sarah Winckless as our guest to name the boat.”
The Chinese-built Win-Tech boat was supplied by a Nottingham firm and will improve the girls’ prospects in future events, including the Schools Head of the River race in March, and the National Schools' Regatta in May.
