Victoria Reid (U6) has been named the Best Spanish Student in the UK in a competition organised by the Spanish Embassy Education Office in the UK.

She was nominated for the award, sponsored by the Department of Culture and Tourism of La Junta de Castilla y León, by the Spanish Department at The Leys because of her excellent academic record and her passion for the language. Her prize was a three days (two nights) trip to Castilla y León for two people with transport, accommodation and food included.

Lia Reyes, Head of Spanish, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and a great accolade for Victoria, The Spanish Department and The Leys. Victoria has always shown a passion and love for the Spanish language and the culture of Spain. She is always finding new ways to extend her knowledge of the Spanish language and culture by watching films, reading Spanish literature and taking advantage of speaking Spanish as much as possible.

“While studying for her A level, she combined her two passions, Science and Spanish, by enrolling on a course on viruses taught in Spanish by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She also took part in two Regional Debating Competitions, one in Year 11 and the other in Year 12, in which her team were runners-up.

“She is a fine role model to other pupils, and we are very proud of her.”

Excepcional, Victoria!
