Girls at The Mount School, York are again celebrating excellent A Level results which have secured places at top UK universities. Just over 20% of girls achieved at least 1 A* with around half of grades at A and above.
Serena Au gained 5 A* grades in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Biology and will be taking up a place at the competitive university of Hong Kong to study Pharmacy where her offer was 4 A* grades.
Sophie Hetherton will spend her gap year becoming the youngest ever female participant in the world’s largest race. She will crew on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race which embarks from London on 1 September 2013, completing all legs of the global race, and she is due to return in July 2014.
Sophie achieved an A and two B grades which means she can accept her offer to study History of Art at the University of York.
Deputy Head girl, Tori Ellis, is celebrating 2 A* and 2 A grades which means she will be taking up her place at Bath University to study Architecture.Tori said, “The success of every Mount girl is the result of her teacher’s dedication and passion for their subject and The Mount’s ethos for every girl to succeed to the best of her ability.”
Also joining Tori at Bath, will be Alice Elliott whose 3 A*s and 1 A has secured her place to study International Relations. Her passion for study in this area has been fuelled by her involvement in the Amnesty and PeaceJam groups at the School.
This year, The Mount became the first school in England to introduce into the curriculum the International PeaceJam Foundation Ambassador’s Programme which is designed by Nobel Peace Laureates. The School made headlines again this year when it announced its involvement to help establish the Ibba Girls’ School in South Sudan, the world’s youngest country.
After achieving 2 A*s and 1 A, Flora Carr is also destined for the South West and will be studying English Literature at Exeter University. Alongside her A Levels, Flora also gained an A* in her Extended Project Qualification.
