Tonbridge School pupil Alex Trigg has organised an evening of memorable music in support of Child Action Lanka.

The concert will take place on Sunday 10 March in the school’s chapel and will feature the debut performance of The Orchestra of St Augustine, which Alex founded and will be conducting.

All proceeds will go to Child Action Lanka, one of the school’s charities, which aims to assist and transform the lives of disadvantaged children in Sri Lanka.

James Priory, the school’s Headmaster, said: “As a school, we have set ourselves the ambitious challenge of raising funds to build a new education centre in Batticaloa with our partners, Child Action Lanka. It is brilliant, therefore, to see the boys showing such creativity and resourcefulness in supporting this great cause.”

Mr Priory added: “To put together a concert from scratch is no mean feat, let alone at just 17 years of age. Alex has worked tremendously hard and I wish him every success on the night.”

The music includes Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem and Pavane, as well as Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto.

The Tudeley Singers, an ensemble which Alex co-founded last year, will also be performing. The evening will feature many other members of Tonbridge School in the choir and orchestra.

Alex describes Fauré’s Requiem in D minor as “a much-loved choral work”, and Bruch’s first Violin Concerto as “among the most popular pieces in the violin repertoire”.
