A Lower Sixth student at Tonbridge has become the school’s latest recipient of the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship.
James Watts was awarded the scholarship, which is given to 16-year-olds following a rigorous selection process. The scholarship aims to inspire and nurture school-age students to be the country’s future leaders in engineering and industry.
Arkwright Scholarships also support students throughout their A-levels.
During his IGCSE studies in the school’s Design, Technology and Engineering (DTE) Department, James gained valuable experience in engineering processes and problem-solving. His coursework provided further strong evidence for the selection panel of his commitment and potential.
Each Arkwright Scholarship is sponsored by a commercial company: James is being sponsored by The Rochester Bridge Trust. The Trust encourages its scholars to share their enthusiasm for engineering by setting up activities within their schools, which the Trust supports by providing resources and speakers.
The Trust also mentors scholars through the university application process, helps find work experience opportunities and lends support to school-based careers events.
