On 4th July 2009, Stewart Hill was leading 160 men in a close combat fight against the Taliban in some of the fiercest Trent Collegefighting seen by UK forces in Afghanistan. He led from the front.

Eight hours later medics battled to save his life after shrapnel from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) tore in to his brain.

Trust. Compassion. Courage. These are the three vital components of leadership according to Lt Col Rtd Stewart Hill. Afghan veteran and a Trent College parent, Stewart gave an inspiring talk about leadership rooted in the context of the Afghan conflict as part of the Whole School Lecture Programme.

Severely injured on his last tour of duty and invalided out of the forces, Stewart has now put all of his efforts into sharing the lessons learnt in the theatre of war and applying them to individuals and organisations.

The Sixth Form was privileged to welcome Stewart to Trent and have hopefully taken away many lessons for later life.
