The Young Enterprise Company competition is a UK-wide contest and has been taking place every year for more than 50 Years. It remains one of the UK’s most prestigious enterprise competitions for young people.

The team of 8 eager students from Trinity School, Teignmouth competed against entrepreneurial students from 24 schools from across the West and South West of England, to launch their ‘Off Shore’ fashion label.  The Trinity School team were also recognised for having achieved the highest sales figures during the day.

Callum Reade, Louis Weight, Lewis Jeffery, Carlos Ybarra, Jack Eaton-Jones, Felix Protheroe and Jamie Moss admirably presented the Off Shore products.  They were led by the team’s Managing Director, Jake Bayliss, who said “the ‘Off Shore’ products are based on sailing themes, which in many ways is not surprising given our school’s location, overlooking the sea on the beautiful South Devon coast.  Initially we are designing a range of t-shirts and a selection of light but durable sports bags, perfect for the sailing fraternity that we have in mind. The Trade Fair at Cribbs Causeway was exciting as it was our first ever day of trading.  We were really pleased with the favourable response”.  All products were extremely popular and the business now has other possible commercial avenues to follow as a result of their attendance at the trade show.

A lot of the success is down to design: they have been very creative in their search for ideas, especially for their innovatively designed tee-shirts. Judges and customers were also impressed with the really eye-catching and professional appearance of the Off Shore stall. Other factors in their favour have been the team’s willingness to put in the hours necessary to be successful in any new business, their excellent organisation, and their outstanding ability to work as a team.’

The next step for the budding young entrepreneurs is to grow the ‘Off Shore’ brand in the region and give the population of Devon the chance to purchase their unique designs.  ’Off Shore’ are then hoping to continue their success and be in contention for the main finals in the Spring of next year.
