Three of Wellington School’s youngest fencers performed superbly in the recent South West region qualifiers for the wellignton School fencersBritish Youth Championships.

Jessica Gundry came first in the U18 girls’ foil, Alex Jasper came third in the U12 and Henry Savage won fourth place in U16 foil. Jade Clarke reached the final last year so will also go on to represent the School.

This weekend the School’s top fencers will face their biggest challenge of the year in the U17 and U20 British Championships. Jessica Gundry will compete in the girls’ U20 épée, Jade Clarke the girls’ U17 foil and Henry Savage will fence at the boys’ U17 foil event.

The two girls have a superb opportunity to win medals whilst Henry’s improving form is promising. For Jessica and Jade, the challenge is even greater – if they reach medal positions they may qualify for the British team for the U17-U20 World Championships later this year in Serbia. Jessica is currently 5th on the girls’ épée U20 British ranking list, whilst Jade is 4th on girls’ foil.
