Truro School has appointed former rugby player Dan Sanderson as its new director of sport.

Dan, a self-confessed “sports fanatic”, will start in September 2018 and will lead all aspects of both traditional team and individual sports, ensuring that pupils are nurtured towards healthy lifestyles.

He said: “I am thrilled to be taking on the role of director of sport at Truro School. With the outstanding talent the school has, I want the girls and boys to help shape the direction of their sporting programme and to enjoy being active. A focus on increasing participation across all team and individual sports will be one of my earliest priorities. Ensuring that health and fitness play a prominent role in the lives of all students is also very important to me.”

Andrew Gordon-Brown, the school’s headmaster, said: “Truro School prides itself on offering high levels of academic excellence alongside a broad range of co-curricular opportunities which not only includes sporting achievement, but also participation. Dan Sanderson’s focus will be on ensuring our high-performance athletes can follow elite development programmes whilst those who do not wish to compete are provided with a wide-ranging programme of non-competitive, health-enhancing sports and activities.”

Dan joins the school following a successful career rugby player with Yorkshire Carnegie, Worcester Warriors and Northampton Saints, alongside coaching of Roundhegians RFC. He was also involved in the Sporting Giants Volleyball programme leading up to the 2012 Olympics, played football to a semi-professional level and has a background in sports and business management.
