Tudor expert Dr Suzannah Lipscomb visited Sutton Valence School to give students an insight into her work as a living historianTudor expert Dr Suzannah Lipscomb visited Sutton Valence School, near Maidstone, to give students an insight into her work as a living historian.

Dr Lipscomb, who has earned a name for herself as one of the country’s leading experts on the Tudors, is a prolific author and appears regularly on TV and radio – everything from Time Team to The One Show.

She worked as Research Curator at Hampton Court Palace from 2007 to August 2010 and now lectures in Early Modern History at the University of East Anglia.

Dr Lipscomb, who was last year one of the lead curators responsible for creating a new visitor experience at Hampton Court to mark the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII’s accession to the throne, spoke to Sixth Form students about her diverse talents, the Tudors and career opportunities for history graduates.

The visit was organised by Sutton Valence’s Head of Careers Christine Carter as part of an ongoing programme to introduce students to some of the names behind the headlines.

Sutton Valence School Headmaster Bruce Grindlay said: 'We like to bring history – and other subjects – alive for our students. Meeting vibrant young people such as Dr Lipscomb makes them appreciate what can be achieved through hard work and determination. She had a fascinating and powerful message to convey and was an inspiration to the students she addressed.'
