Moreton Hall Forensic ScienceA dead body. Police. Forensics. It all took place on February 14th at Moreton Hall as the Science, English and ICT Departments collaborated on a day of learning with a difference.
The St.Valentine’s Day Massacre started with a visit from PC Lewis-Badman who briefed all of the detectives in Years 7 and 8 at the scene of the crime. They then spent the day following scientific clues, learning how to carry out different forensic techniques, creating a Radio 1 Newsbeat style piece and newspaper articles. Head of ICT, Tim Nolan, even worked with a group to create a ‘Crime Watch’ programme.

‘Cross – curricular days can be such a stimulating way of learning and teaching. While having a lot of fun the children develop a vast array of skills’, says Head of English, Caroline Lang. ‘The children were exposed to many aspects of scientific inquiry such as ballistics, fingerprint analysis, soil analysis and chromatography, it's been fascinating for them’, explains Biology teacher, Hannah Peel.
