Michael Crick, BBC Newsnight’s Political Editor, will be visiting Mount St Mary’s College on Thursday, October 14 for a talk designed to inspire students about life in the media and politics.

Michael’s long and prestigious career in journalism started in 1982 as a founder member of Channel 4 News. Ten years later he joined the Newsnight team and in 2007 he was named BBC Newsnight’s Political Editor.

He graduated from New College, Oxford, with a first class degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, where he also held the title of editor for the student newspaper, president of the Oxford Union, and founder of the Oxford Handbook and the Oxbridge Careers Handbook.

Michael boasts 30 years of top journalistic experience, while also working as an active author with seven books under his belt.

Laurence McKell, head teacher at Mount St Mary’s said: “It’s a great honour to have such a major figure in the world of media and politics visit the school and speak to our students about his career and experiences.

“It forms part of a series of events taking place at Mount St Mary’s during the autumn term designed to act as an inspiration for pupils to channel their independence and challenge themselves as preparation for life after school.”

Following Michael in the schedule of events will be global explorer, Tom Avery, who will speak to students about his world adventures on November 17.
