“It was one of the best reflections of what we do here – and I thank all the students for reminding us of this – all of us who understand the essence of Kent College, realise that it is the quality of human interactions which define the ethos. ” said the Head Master Dr. David Lamper in his Speech Day address.

Indeed the school have so much to be singing and dancing about academic results continue to be a strength with the recent International Baccalaureate results placing the school amongst the best in the country for the second year running; the students who sat their exams this Summer already know that they have secured places at some of the most prestigious universities in the UK, America, Spain and Germany.

The GREAT programme (which stands for Gifted, really enthusiastic, able and talented) offered by the new curriculum structure at the Nursery, Infant and Junior School is key to early success. Setting in core subjects is designed to accelerate progress and gives children the option to develop particular skills, be they academic or in Art, Drama, Music or Sport to prepare for exams and scholarships. This personalised approach to education is offered right across Kent College.

“Living on a big map” with partnership schools in Tanzania, Australia, New Zealand and the USA students have benefitted from a full school and teacher exchange programme. One of the reasons Kent College became Church School of the Year for London and the South East was because it could demonstrate that ‘we live on a big map’. Born out recently when a shipping container, holding tens of thousands of pounds worth of donated educational materials was sent to Tanzania in support of the schools there; also by the recent announcement that Kent College, Dubai will open in 2015.

The Head Master continued “Kent College is about so much more than academic success: Our students have raised over £18,000 through a number of fundraisers, including an Auction of Promises and Bollywood dancing. We have enjoyed drama productions from the delightful Guys and Dolls to this week’s promenade performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

In sports, our teams reached regional finals in hockey and district finals in cricket, county finals in tennis and netball, and national finals across the age range in athletics. A number of talented individuals represent their country in their sport. Our scientists were runners up in the national Young Engineer of the Year Awards.

A young artist was delighted when his painting ‘Return’ was shortlisted in the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition – a particularly notable achievement.

In music, we had the evocative, thrilling performance of The Armed Man, the Choristers won the national Barnardo’s Choir of the Year Competition and brought a touch of class to the concert at the Royal Albert Hall last weekend. Sedecim were runners up in the same competition and will sing at Westminster Cathedral later this year.”

The painting shown above is 'Return', currently on show at The Royal Academy.
