The first week of the academic year means, of course, that it’s been extremely busy for all of us – and also that it’s time for Friday photos to IMG_1560start again!  Here is a selection of my favourites for this week

On top of Winder. This happy new Sedberghian joined Yr 9 this week. One of the strengths of the boarding house structure at Sedbergh is that the older pupils help to look after the younger ones and are something of a role model for them. A trip to the top of Winder on the first day for all year 9 starters with the House prefects has been a long tradition here for many years. For some of our overseas pupils, it is IMG_1561their first ever hike up a hill and I think this young Hong Kong boy is quite pleased with his achievement 🙂

Getting to know each other over dinner. Did you know that Sedbergh is now one of only six schools in the whole of the UK to retain in-House dining? The way the simple ritual of coming together as a House for meals three times a day brings the House community together simply cannot be over-stated.

International Summer School 2016. I probably say this every year but this really was an absolutely fabulous and unforgettable 4 weeks. So many amazing, accomplished and delightful children! New highlights for this year included Scottish country dancing, the inaugural Masterchef competition which will definitely be included again for 2017 and our activity staff performing Beyonce Single Ladies for the students. Once again this year, many of the students expressed interest in joining the boarding school following their summer school experience and indeed three of them are already in the school!
