Wellesley House Headmaster Circe ClassicsAs part of its long tradition of boarding and educational excellence, Wellesley House prep school in Broadstairs is proud of its classical traditions. Latin continues to be taught to Common Entrance and contributes to the successful graduation of Welleslians to top UK public schools such as Eton and Harrow.

Academic rigour is matched with a broad and enriching curriculum of sport, music, art and drama and this term the saw a wonderful adaptation  by Years 6 and 7 of Homer’s, ‘The Odyssey.’  The age old story of adventure and homecoming was brought bang up to date with humour and energetic song and dance routine, but lost none of the powerful language and description of the original text.  Every pupil in the middle school took part in the production and despite their young ages (between nine and eleven years old), delivered the demanding lines with a joyful enthusiasm that got the whole audience involved.

Wellelsey, nominated as Best Prep School in the latest Tatler School Awards, nurtures both collective and individual achievements.  Recently, pupils have enjoyed scholarship success;  taken first place in national competitions for general knowledge (Ethan Beckett – SATIPS ) and squash (Islay Thornicroft – IAPS girls’ champion); won the Molten Golden Ball football trophy  and returned with silverware from the Oundle Small Schools Rugby Sevens tournament.

Headmaster, Simon O’Malley, said “We are a small school where every child counts and it is remarkable how often Wellesley pupils compete and excel against opponents from much larger schools. ‘The Odyssey’ was a great example of what happy, busy children can achieve. I am proud of the whole cast and very grateful to Will and Gabrielle Wollen who directed and produced the show.”

Wellesley House has an Activities Morning at 10am on Saturday 9th May, particularly aimed at families looking for entry into Years 3 and 4. Please contact the Headmaster’s PA at hmsec@wellesleyhouse.net  for further details and to book a place.
