Wellington Boy Gains International Hockey Cap

Former Wellington School pupil and 1st XI hockey captain, Tom Carson, gained his first international cap on his debut wellington schoolfor the England Men’s Hockey team last week, in a 3 match series against Belgium, in Antwerp.

Tom, whose father is a housemaster at Wellington School, has been an avid hockey player all his life. He was a sports scholar at Exeter University, where he played in their 1st men’s team for 4 years.

Following his graduation last summer, Tom moved to Reading, where he is currently employed by Fujitsu on their graduate training scheme and playing for Reading Hockey Club, which is in the top league in the country and have recently qualified to play in the European Hockey League (EHL) again next season.

He is one of 32 players identified in the GB development squad for the Rio Olympics in 2016 and has been training regularly with the squad at the national sports centre at Bisham Abbey.

“This is a defining moment in my hockey career,” commented Tom.

“The England team have further matches against Germany in the coming week, in preparation for the Hockey World League Semi-finals in Johor, Malaysia at the end of the month, so I am really looking forward to the challenge of those games,” concluded Tom.
