Wellington Prep School is delighted to announce the appointment of two new Deputy Heads.

In a move away from a traditional Deputy Head role, Catherine Aish has been appointed Academic Deputy Head and Martin Stepney will be Pastoral Deputy Head.

“With the retirement of Linda Scott after many years of sterling service, we have taken the opportunity to restructure in an entirely innovative way,” commented Headmaster Adam Gibson.  “The appointment of these Deputies will focus sharply on the rigorous academic curriculum our pupils enjoy, whilst being underpinned by the nurturing environment which makes us so special”.

Catherin Aish graduated from Loughborough University and completed her PGCE at Worcester College.  She taught at Wycliffe College Pre-Prep for 2 Years and then spent 16 Years at Taunton Prep School.  She was also Head of English and Faculty Head of Languages from Nursery to Year 8.

Martin Stepney completed his degree at Plymouth University and PGCE at Somerset SCITT. He joined Wellington Prep School in January from North Petherton Primary School where he taught for five years. Having experience across both key stages, Martin has also led the development of the ICT curriculum and a number of high profile CPD events for teachers across the entire county.   Prior to teaching, Martin worked for the technology company Apple and also within the radio industry. He brings extensive sport and drama experience to the school.

The appointments echo the recent changes in Deputy Heads in Wellington Senior School and herald a pioneering way of managing the Prep School which sets it clearly apart.

“Both the positions attracted a very strong field of applicants, which is a clear endorsement of the high quality of education provided by the school and I am confident that we have a strong and exciting team in place to move forward and provide the environment in which our young people can flourish,” concluded Mr Gibson.
